Infographic: Feudal System
Topic: European Feudal System
Target Audience: 9th Grade World History Students
Instructional Design Process: The instructional design process utilized for this project was the ADDIE model. This includes several phases (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation). At first, I thought about the specific topic and audience I wanted to create an infographic for. Next, I planned the standard and content related to the topic of feudalism. The next phase was creating the product and evaluating the final product to ensure I included the relative information for my students.
How can this project be used for teaching purposes: Students can create infographics to summarize unit information. This can be used as a summative assessment. At the end of our Medieval unit, students must complete a project related to the unit. O love the idea of having students creating infographic or digital posters to summarize what they learned.
The principles and elements of visual/media literacy: Mayer’s Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning suggests that students better when both words and visual aids are utilized together. This theory is used when completing an assignment that incorporates the creation of digital posters or infographics. This theory suggests that learning includes a series of active processes that take place when leaning new concepts. Infographics can allow students to filter, organize, and integrate new information and key concepts.
Definitions:
Infographics- A visual graphic design that can provide information is an organized way typically presented in a vertical format. Infographics include a headline, content that explains the topic, and it must be able to stand alone.
Posters- A visual graphic design that can provide information is an organized way typically presented in a horizontal format.
Differences between them and their unique educational affordances: Infographics are useful instructional tools for communicating information quickly and to deliver concise information.Digital posters do not need to have as much detailed information. They are useful for communicating simple messages.
How can students can develop their own infographics/posters:
Step 1- Students will create an account on Piktochart.com
Step 2- Students will select a format to use for their infographic
Step 3- Students will include the following information on their infographic
Reflection: Creating infographics is an excellent opportunity to integrate technology in the classroom. When creating infographics, students can use technology to illustrate creative thinking, to communicate or work collaboratively, and to use visual illustrations to gather information. I have created several infographics for various assignments. In my experience, the more you create infographics, the easier it is to create one that is creative and unique.
